Businesses in Logan City are breathing a little easier as they can now trade somewhat normally since the lockdown in the Greater Brisbane area ended Monday night.
Amanda Rowan from chamber of commerce and industry Queensland said the three-day shutdown came at a cost, particularly for the service and hospitality sectors.
“Many businesses weren’t able to operate and that of course is going to hurt them financially and operationally,” she said.
“Now they have to reschedule customers, and as well as that, pick back up the lost trade of the last three days.”
Despite the lockdown being lifted, some restrictions will remain in place through January 22, including the wearing of masks which is mandatory in stores, gyms and on public transport.
It is also required in the workplace, but only if people can’t socially distance.
Queensland’s chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said COVID testing is a key factor in reducing the chances of picking up the coronavirus, particularly the new and more easily transmissible strain from the UK.
