A floodwatch has been issued for the Logan and Albert Rivers, as locals are urged to be vigilant and prepare.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a major flood warning for the Logan River at Beaudesert overnight..
The Logan River at Beaudesert is currently at 4.37 metres and rising, with the river likely to exceed the minor flood level of 5.50 m by this afternoon, due to prolonged rainfall.
Moderate flooding is possible elsewhere on the Logan and Albert Rivers.
Atmospheric Scientist Brooke Pagel says people living or working along rivers and creeks should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings.
Rainfall totals of 30-90 mm have been recorded over the Logan and Albert catchments since 9am Thursday, with the heaviest rainfall over the lower catchment.
The rainfall has caused traffic chaos, as floodwaters flowed over roads around Logan and the Scenic Rim, while cars drove into floodwaters at Berrinba.
Further heavy to intense rainfall is forecast to move south into the catchment throughout today and may persist into Saturday with significant rainfall totals expected, before easing over the weekend.
River and creek levels are already rising throughout the catchment and are expected to continue with further heavy rainfall.
