Soldiers help resilient Logan residents with the flood clean-up

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power has praised the contribution of Australian Defence Force personnel who joined the Logan flood recovery effort today.

A 20-strong ADF crew, from Operation Flood Assist, helped clean 29 properties yesterday and today and participated in the kerbside clean-up in flood-affected  suburbs this morning.

“These soldiers are really fit and able to do a lot of work in a short time, so it is very pleasing to have them on board.”

The Mayor joined ADF personnel and Council staff and contractors to assist in the  clean-up of streets in Slacks Creek today.

“It was terrific to see residents come out and knowledge the ADF presence.”

“They were really pleased, and so was I, to see these guys, Australia’s finest, out  here doing work and assisting Council staff to get this huge job done.

“We should take our hats off to them all.”

The presence of ADF personnel and trucks will allow the kerbside clean-up to  continue over the weekend in flood-affected suburbs.

It is expected the ADF will remain in Logan while there is a need for them to  participate in the local flood clean-up.

The clean-up, repair and inspection of flood-impacted roads also is ongoing.

Six Council roads are still closed to traffic as repairs and structural inspections are  completed. They are:

  • Eagleby Rd, Eagleby
  • Wharf Rd, Eagleby
  • Begley Rd, Greenbank
  • Ripley Rd, Lyons
  • Tully Rd East, New Beith
