A Logan City disability service, specialising in music therapy, is debuting its first song and music video ‘Living with a Disability’ to the public this Friday (October 23).
The Kingstones Music Program gathered on Wednesday (October 21) night to debut the song and video for their band members/patients and their families.
The Kingstones is at the forefront of disability innovation and sees their patients involved in the writing, producing, playing, singing, and recording of the music.
Program facilitators Kelvin and Joan Vaega run the program for their Kingstones; Evangel, Jewelz, Nikki Drizz, Bill, and Dan.
Mr Vaega said he gets just as much out of the experience as his clients.
“It was really good to have the family and friends of the Kingstones here,” he said.

“It means a lot to them and all of us to have their support.
“Working with these guys with an intellectual disability not every day is the same.
“It’s forever changing. And they’ve just got a genius about them. One or so things that they’re all really good at. They’re so talented.”
Mr Vaega said the aim of the program was to ‘empower’.
“A Lot of our songs talk about their struggles, where they’ve come from, and where they want to be going,” he said.
“Just because they have a disability a lot of people put them in the corner and are like ‘oh they’re the special ones we don’t associate with them’ but here at Kingstones music I teach that you can do whatever you want to do.
“I am blessed to have these guys in my life. They empower me and push me everyday.”
