Marsden State High School has been named the country’s top secondary school of the year, and its well-loved principal crowned the country’s top public school principal.

This was announced at the renowned Australian Education Awards ceremony.

The school also won an award for its Professional Learning programs, and was a finalist in nine out of the 25 categories.

Principal Andrew Peach said he felt honoured, and was incredibly proud of his team at Marsden State High School.

“I’m very proud and excited. It’s a great honour for the school community and for the greater community across Logan to have that level of recognition,” Mr Peach said.

“I think what’s special about Marsden (State High School) is the community. We’re really lucky that in Logan we’ve got such a strong community.

“We get great support from our parents, our local businesses, and our partners who work with us on different projects.

“Obviously our kids are outstanding as well. It’s very exciting to be a staff member at Marsden and the opportunities that it brings to drive success and excellence with our kids.”

Mr Peach has been working in education for over 20 years and said he got his start out west as a teacher at Roma.

Mr Peach has been the principal of Marsden State High School for over six years now, and said it was a wonderful work place.

“It’s a wonderful workplace for our staff and a wonderful learning environment for our kids,” he said.

“I feel so lucky to get to work here everyday. There’s no better job than teaching.

“The impact that you’re able to make in helping mold the young lives of the students who come through our school.

“Then it’s such a pleasure to see them grow up and develop into the outstanding men and women they become as members of our local community.”

The Australian Education Judges comments showed just how deserving of this award Marsden State High School was.

“The commitment to learning and results this school has achieved across all areas demonstrates a commitment to excellence and an aspiration for all students to be provided with the best and to achieve the best,” the judge wrote.

“’The sheer scale of innovation developed and delivered by Marsden State High School which serves a complex and low ses community.
