Logan Mud Army begins clean-up

Mud Armies are on the ground across Logan, helping their neighbours to clean-up following the recent flood.

At Eagleby, locals mobilised at the Giants Clubhouse before cleaning-up properties on Albert Street.

The Giants teamed up with Wesley Mission Queensland, Logan City Councillor Karen Murphy, Nightlight, Rotary Club of Beenleigh and Beenleigh Baptist Church to coordinate the local mud army to assist residents in need.

Wesley Mission Queensland Eagleby Community Support Program Coordinator Pania Taramai says it was great to see locals helping their neighbours.

Eagleby local Phillip Short is very grateful for the help.

The Mud Army consisted of local residents such as Geoffrey Piper and Cameron Murphy.

Mr Piper says he loves volunteering and helping the community.

“When this came up, I put my hand straight up, because there is a lot of people out here that need our help.

“I’m sure if I needed help, they would be there to help me.

“I love the area and what more could you do?

“Come and help.”

Mr Murphy says he enjoys helping people out.

“I love being involved in the community and helping out fellow members of our community.”

The clean-up effort will be able to ramp up, weather permitting, as floodwaters start to recede.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, minor flooding has eased on the Logan River at Beaudesert, while minor flooding at the Parklands is easing after the Friday high tide.

To join the clean-up effort at Eagleby, meet at the Eagleby Giants Clubhouse, 1 Bishop Street, during the day or contact Nick Carroll on 0431 025 799.
