Logan Mwy shooting, double murder acts of terrorism: police

The shooting of a man on the Logan Motorway and a double murder are linked and police say they are treating both incidents as acts of terrorism.

22-year old Raghe Abdi, a former student at John Paul College at Daisy Hill, was shot dead by police Thursday on the motorway at Drewvale, near Berrinba on Logan City’s northwestern outskirts, and hours later the bodies of an elderly couple were found in a home at nearby Parkinson.

The bodies of an 87-year old man and an 86-year old woman were found in the home on Ulinga Crescent, Parkinson, about nine hours after the shooting.

Deputy commissioner Tracy Linford said police still don’t know what the personal connections were, but examinations of both crime scenes turned up a link.

“There was an item located with Mr Abdi that we believe has come from the address of the deceased elderly couple. And we are also looking into items of property that were located at their address that are believed may have been owned by Mr Abdi,” deputy commissioner Linford said.

Police believe there is no further threat to the public and that Abdi acted alone.

The ethical standards command is investigating the shooting of Abdi, who was on bail after being stopped from leaving the country by counter-terrorism police three months ago.
