The new school will include an administration building, prep and junior learning spaces, a resource centre, multi-purpose hall, canteen, car parking, amenities and an oval.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk made the announcement in Parliament saying the new Yarrabilba school is amongst four new schools opening in 2023.
“Today I’m pleased to announce that contracts have been awarded to FKG Group, Hutchinson Builders and ADCO for Stage One of the new state primary schools in Augustine Heights, Ripley Valley and Yarrabilba; as well as a new state high school at Palmview,” the Premier says.
According to the QLD Department of Education, Yarrabilba’s newest state school will increase the capacity of the local schooling network and provide enrolment relief to Yarrabilba State School, Logan Village State School and Cedar Creek State School, with expressions of interest for students wishing to enrol at the new state school considered from early 2022.
The large population growth, the considerable number of additional primary students expected and the projected capacity pressure at nearby state schools all support the need for a new school which, the department states, aims to provide long-term enrolment capacity in the schooling network while addressing the growing demand that is occurring in the area.
Currently, the project is in the design phase, with the Concept Master Plan completed and contract documentation under review.
Education Minister Grace Grace says construction should commence around March.
“The contracts being awarded for four new schools being delivered in the fastest growing areas of Queensland is another important milestone on the journey to delivering the extra state school capacity we need in coming years,” Minister Grace says.
“Our aim is to ensure all children, no matter where they live, get a great start to their future by having access to quality educational facilities.”
The catchment area for the new school will be confirmed during Term 3, 2022 and become available closer to the end of the year. When available, the new catchment can be found on EdMaps .
