Gympie police volunteer Carol Cunningham named Female Senior Citizen of the Year
Carol Cunningham, an 18-year Volunteer in Policing with Gympie's Crime Prevention Unit, has won the Gympie Council 2026 Female Senior Citizen of the Year Award.
Gympie Police Volunteer in Policing Carol Cunningham has been named the Gympie Council 2026 Female Senior Citizen of the Year.
The award was announced during the Gympie Seniors Expo Event on 29 October. The Gympie Crime Prevention Unit attended the expo with a display where residents could chat about crime prevention and how to keep themselves safe. Despite being a nominee, Ms Cunningham spent the event working.
Police said she has spent 18 years as a Volunteer in Policing with the Crime Prevention Unit, providing behind-the-scenes support across a wide range of initiatives. Her involvement has helped build connections between Gympie Police and the community, supporting crime prevention, public safety and positive relationships with local residents.
Ms Cunningham has also given much of her time to Kingston House, an aged care facility, as an events and activities organiser while it was open. She has supported the Gympie Golf Club and worked in administration at Amamoor State Primary School for many years.
Police said the Gympie Crime Prevention Unit runs smoothly thanks to its three volunteers: Ms Cunningham, Marie and Helen. They put in many hours supporting public engagement at events, from assisting with presentations in kindergartens to talking about crime prevention at local aged care facilities.
Police thanked all of their volunteers and congratulated Ms Cunningham for her contributions to the local community, saying she helps make Gympie a great place to live and work.
The Queensland Police Service is also encouraging people interested in a policing career to apply via the Queensland Police recruitment website.
