Ipswich police urge safe celebrations during Rugby League World Cup

Ipswich police are asking residents to celebrate the Rugby League World Cup safely, respect road rules and be considerate of neighbours until 15 November.

Ipswich police are encouraging residents to celebrate the Rugby League World Cup safely and respectfully, with celebrations continuing through to 15 November 2026.

Police said they were excited to see the passion, pride and spirit across the community, whether people are cheering from home or celebrating a win afterwards. They want everyone to enjoy the occasion and make it home safely.

On the roads, police are asking people to:

  • respect the road rules and other road users;
  • keep all parts of the body inside the vehicle at all times;
  • ride only in seats secured with seatbelts;
  • be mindful of vehicle noise and pollution;
  • not exceed the vehicle's seating capacity;
  • plan a way home and never drive after drinking;
  • keep roads and footpaths clear;
  • make sure drivers have a clear, unobstructed view out of the car and are not distracted by passengers; and
  • be mindful of where they are around traffic.

Police are also asking people to be respectful of the wider community. That includes reducing noise where possible out of consideration for neighbours, cleaning up after themselves and not leaving rubbish in public places, and supervising children so they can celebrate safely too.

With Halloween approaching, police asked people to be mindful of costumes and masks that could frighten small children or intimidate others in the community.

Anyone with information for police can contact Policelink 24 hours a day by using the online suspicious activity form on the Queensland Police Service reporting page. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through the Crime Stoppers Queensland website.
