Ripley police station hosts wellbeing expo for QPS officers
Queensland Police Service held a Safety and Wellbeing Mini Expo at Ripley Police Station to connect officers with health and support services.
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has hosted a Safety and Wellbeing Mini Expo at Ripley Police Station, connecting officers with support services aimed at promoting health, resilience and wellbeing across the organisation.
The event was held in recognition of National Safe Work Month in October. It brought together internal safety and wellbeing teams and external service providers, giving staff the chance to meet them directly and learn about the initiatives and resources available.
The expo focused on physical, psychological, social and spiritual support. It was designed to raise awareness of the programs on offer, encourage engagement with them, and make it easier for officers to seek support early when needed.
The QPS said it recognises the pressures that can come with frontline policing and the role officers play in community safety.
Manager of Wellbeing Services Leigh Turvey said looking after officers was important because of the work they do for others.
"It’s important to take care of our people because they go out into the community to take care of everyone else," Leigh said.
"If our people are happy, healthy and safe, they’ll have happy, healthy and long careers and take care of their community to the best of their capability."
The QPS said initiatives like the expo reinforce its commitment to a safe and supportive workplace, and to a strong and resilient workforce.
