Townsville District officers honoured at Kirwan awards ceremony
Queensland Police Service members in the Townsville District received service medals, clasps and certificates at an honours and awards ceremony in Kirwan.
Sworn officers and staff from the Townsville District have been recognised for their service and dedication at an Honours and Awards ceremony held in Kirwan on 8 October, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) said.
The ceremony acknowledged Queensland Police Service members who have reached service milestones, or who have gone above and beyond their normal duties. Awards included National Police Service Medals, Exemplary Conduct Medals, and various Service Medals and Clasps.
Sergeant Carlo Louwrens received the National Police Service Medal, the Exemplary Conduct Medal, the Queensland Police Remote Service Medal, an Assistant Commissioner's Certificate and a 15-year clasp. The Assistant Commissioner's Certificate recognised his role in apprehending an offender during a high-risk operation at Gulliver on 14 May 2024. It is awarded to a member who displays intelligence, resourcefulness and dedication to duty, and was earned for his composure, courage and decisive leadership.
Sergeant Kerry Melrose received a 35 Year Clasp in recognition of 35 years of diligent and ethical service.
Townsville Assistant District Officer Superintendent Damien Crosby said it was important to recognise the officers who work to keep the community safe.
"This job demands an exceptional level of commitment, and the people being recognised today have gone above and beyond," Superintendent Crosby said.
"Whether through extraordinary acts of bravery, or long service, each member receiving an award today should be proud of their achievements and service."
Other recipients included Sergeant Harley Polman, Senior Sergeant Jonathan Searle, Sergeant Kevin Pittendreigh and Constable Cooper Harland, along with civilians Sam Reuben, Jenny Pryor and Georges Aprem.
