Wide Bay police blood drive for injured constable saves 999 lives

A Wide Bay District police blood drive for Constable Jordan May drew 333 blood and plasma donations, equal to 999 lives saved.

A blood drive started by Wide Bay District police to support an injured colleague has helped save close to 1000 lives, Queensland Police Service says.

The BleedBlue4Jordan drive backed First Year Constable Jordan May, who was shot in the leg while attending a domestic violence matter at Yengarie in July.

It ran from 22 September to 31 October. In that time 333 blood and plasma donations were made, equivalent to 999 lives saved.

Constable May said the results were far more than he had expected and that he was extremely grateful for the support.

Wide Bay District Officer Superintendent Anne Vogler said he was continuing to make progress in his recovery, which would not have been possible without the generosity of donors.

“The results of the BleedBlue4Jordan blood drive will make a tangible difference to members of our community in similar situations,” she said.

“I’m extremely proud of how officers across the district stepped up in droves to donate blood and plasma in support of Jordan. Helping people is at the core of what we do, and donating is a small act that can save someone’s life.”

“Some officers signed up to donate for the first time as part of this drive and are now committed to continuing to give blood and save even more lives”.
