Homicide investigation launched after hinterland death

Something went fatally wrong on a Wednesday in the Gold Coast hinterland, and police now believe a man died in violent circumstances at his Mount Tamborine home during that day and extending into Thursday.

The body of a 37-year-old self-employed father of two lay undiscovered for hours until Thursday afternoon, when his former partner arrived at the Tolima Drive address and made the grim discovery. Confronted with obvious signs of violence, she immediately contacted emergency services.

When police arrived at the quiet hinterland residence shortly after midday, they found a scene that demanded a full homicide response. The property was immediately secured as a crime scene, and forensic specialists deployed to begin their meticulous examination. That investigation would continue uninterrupted through the night and into the following day.

"The scene was secured and forensic services have now been examining that scene for approaching 24 hours," Inspector Chris Knight confirmed at a briefing on Friday afternoon. By then, detectives had narrowed their focus considerably. Police believe the violence occurred on Wednesday, with the body remaining at the home until his former partner's Thursday afternoon arrival.

The investigation escalated rapidly as the implications became clear. Inspector Knight said police would maintain a heavy presence across the Mount Tamborine district throughout Friday and Saturday, with officers conducting systematic door-knock inquiries among residents and business owners. Investigators recognised that someone in the community might hold a crucial piece of the puzzle—perhaps a vehicle sighting, an overheard disturbance, or activity that seemed unremarkable at the time but could now take on new significance.

Knight issued a direct appeal for public assistance, particularly from those with electronic evidence. "For anybody who is familiar with that address or familiar with that area and may have dashcam footage or might own private CCTV cameras at their houses or their businesses, please contact Crimestoppers and volunteer that information," he said.

Detectives are particularly keen to hear from anyone who observed activity at or near Tolima Drive on Wednesday, when they believe the violence occurred. Even seemingly minor details—a parked vehicle, an unfamiliar person, raised voices, or unusual commotion in the area—could prove essential to establishing what happened and who was responsible.

What triggered the fatal confrontation remains unknown, as does the identity of anyone involved in the man's death. Police have disclosed little beyond confirming he suffered fatal head and upper body injuries and that the crime scene bore unmistakable signs of violence.
