Ipswich Police urge residents to step up home security this week
Ipswich Police are marking Crime Prevention and Neighbourhood Watch Week with home security tips and a call to join a local Neighbourhood Watch committee.
Ipswich Police are encouraging residents to take simple steps to protect their homes and vehicles as Queensland marks Crime Prevention and Neighbourhood Watch Week, running from 12 to 18 October.
Police say the week is a chance for residents to improve safety, protect property and strengthen community connections. They are asking people to spend a few minutes reviewing their home and vehicle security, talking with neighbours about community safety and sharing crime prevention tips with family and friends.
Police list several ways to improve security around the home and neighbourhood:
Lock your home, vehicle and garage, even when you are nearby. Keep valuables out of sight and secure personal belongings. Ensure outdoor areas are well lit and maintained. Report suspicious activity to police promptly. Consider installing CCTV cameras and registering them with Community Camera Alliance. Get to know your neighbours and look out for one another.
Neighbourhood Watch committees operate across the Ipswich District in Somerset, Goodna, Riverview, Harrisville and Boonah. Police say the program helps them understand community concerns, share crime prevention information and work with residents on local safety issues. Residents interested in getting involved can visit the Neighbourhood Watch Queensland membership page.
