Ipswich police urge tyre and trailer theft precautions after business thefts

Ipswich Police District businesses have recently been hit by wheel and tyre thefts, and police are urging owners to secure trailers and vehicles.

Police are urging Queensland business owners to tighten security after a number of businesses across the Ipswich Police District were recently targeted for wheel and tyre theft.

Queensland Police Service says tyre theft affects trailer and vehicle hire operators, trades people and owners of camper trailers or caravans. Police say these thefts are often linked to deliberate dangerous driving behaviours, putting the wider community at risk.

Police say a few security measures can target harden and significantly reduce the risk of trailer and wheel theft:

  • Lock your wheels: use wheel clamps, boots, lug bolts or chock locks.
  • Chain it down: secure trailers to heavy immovable objects.
  • Cover with cameras: install CCTV on trailer and vehicle storage areas, and register cameras through the QPS Community Camera Alliance.
  • Make it visible: obvious security measures deter opportunistic thieves.

Anyone with information for police can contact Policelink, using the online suspicious activity form via the Queensland Police Service reporting page, 24 hours a day. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through the Crime Stoppers Queensland website.

Police also reminded motorists that every choice behind the wheel matters. Driving under the influence, speeding, driving distracted or fatigued, or not wearing a seatbelt puts lives at serious risk, and police say these behaviours will not be tolerated.
