Lakeland woman, 66, charged over alleged Bayside Park assault at Manly

A 66-year-old Lakeland woman has been charged with common assault with a hate crime aggravation over an alleged incident at Manly's Bayside Park.

A 66-year-old Lakeland woman has been charged over an alleged assault at Bayside Park in Manly, with police alleging a serious vilification or hate crime circumstance of aggravation.

Queensland Police Service says the incident happened around 8pm on 21 February, when a group of people were at the park and an altercation occurred involving a woman and members of the group.

Police will allege the woman approached the group, verbally harassed them and attempted to remove religious clothing from some members. It will be further alleged she left the area, then returned a short time later, when more verbal harassment is alleged to have occurred.

On 22 September, officers from the Counter Terrorism Investigation Group executed a search warrant at a Manly address. The woman was subsequently charged with one count of common assault with a serious vilification or hate crime circumstance of aggravation.

She is due to appear at Wynnum Magistrates Court on 26 October.
