QPS reminds Queenslanders of online crime map for local statistics
Queensland Police Service says its online crime map lets residents search daily-updated crime statistics by suburb, postcode, police division and offence type.
Queensland Police Service (QPS) is urging residents to use its online crime map to check accurate crime statistics for their area, saying social media can sometimes amplify and distort information.
Crime Prevention Officers say they often hear from concerned members of the public and community groups wondering what crime is like in their neighbourhood. The map is designed to answer that question with official data.
Users can search by individual suburb or postcode, police division, or Neighbourhood Watch Group where one exists in the area. Results can also be filtered by offence type and by date range, from yesterday back as far as five years. The data is updated daily.
To help reduce crime locally, QPS also encourages people to visit its crime prevention website for tips and strategies to keep themselves and their property safe.
Anyone with information for police can contact Policelink 24 hours a day by using the online suspicious activity form on the Policelink website.
Information can also be reported anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or via the Crime Stoppers Queensland website.
