Six-hour armed stand-off ends with peaceful surrender

A six-hour armed stand-off in a Logan home ended peacefully on Thursday when a 27-year-old man surrendered to police following extensive negotiations.

Officers responded shortly after midnight to a noise complaint at a Chambers Flat Road property in Logan Reserve. Upon arrival, the man emerged from the house in an agitated state, and police began negotiations with the suspect, who was believed to be armed.

The incident prompted an emergency declaration and the establishment of an exclusion zone spanning three major roads—Chambers Flat Road, School Road, and Logan Reserve Road. Residents in the affected area were advised to remain indoors as the stand-off continued through the early morning hours.

Acting Inspector Jason Barrowcliffe described a volatile negotiation process, noting the suspect's erratic behaviour. "The male was in an agitated state so he was negotiating at some points, other times he wasn't," Barrowcliffe said. "This morning he actively came out of the house and started face-to-face negotiations. So then he just surrendered to us and he was secured in the front yard."

Police reported observing what appeared to be a pistol in the man's possession during the stand-off, though searches of the property Thursday morning found no weapon. The suspect, who is known to police, was taken to hospital uninjured for observation and later arrested. He had threatened officers at various points during the extended negotiations.

The peaceful resolution prevented any shots being fired or injuries sustained during the operation, which disrupted traffic and daily life across multiple suburbs for several hours.
