Three Sydney men extradited over Gold Coast extortion alleged

Three Sydney men are being extradited to the Gold Coast over alleged extortion and stalking linked to threats made against three people in July.

Three Sydney men will be extradited to Queensland from New South Wales this afternoon over the alleged extortion and stalking of three people on the Gold Coast in July, Queensland Police Service says.

Gold Coast detectives successfully applied for the extradition on Wednesday 21 October. A 35-year-old, a 45-year-old and a 38-year-old are scheduled to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow, 23 October, on multiple charges of extortion with intent to gain benefit with threat of detriment. Investigations are ongoing.

Police will allege that around 10.50am on 18 July, a 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were at their Mermaid Waters home when two unknown men arrived, identified themselves as ‘debt collectors’ and demanded a significant amount of money. The couple were then taken to a nearby café where they met a 39-year-old man they had been involved in a Broadbeach business venture with in 2025, and further threats were allegedly made. No one was injured.

It will be further alleged that around 8.20am on 26 July, two men went to the Currumbin Waters house of a 47-year-old man, demanded a significant amount of money and made threats. The 47-year-old had been involved in a restaurant business venture with the 39-year-old from 2016 to 2021. No one was injured.

On 28 July, officers executed a search warrant at a residence on Marine Parade at Miami, where they allegedly found drugs and arrested the 39-year-old man. The Miami man was charged with three counts each of extortion and unlawful stalking, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing prescription medication. He is scheduled to reappear in the Southport Magistrates Court on 3 December.
