Thick smoke from large Rosevale fire as crews work to contain blaze

Thick smoke is affecting Rosevale from a large fire near Schimke Road that is not under control, the Queensland Fire Department says.

Thick smoke is affecting Rosevale and surrounding areas from a large fire burning near Schimke Road, the Queensland Fire Department has warned.

In a warning issued at 2:22pm on Thursday 5 November 2026, the department said fire crews were on scene but the fire was not under control. Residents were urged to protect themselves from the impacts of smoke. No properties are at risk.

Smoke could make it hard for some people to breathe and can cause health issues. Some roads may be closed or affected by smoke, visibility could be poor, and drivers may need to take a different route.

The department's advice is:

  • If the smoke is thick where you are, stay inside and close windows and doors.
  • If you need medication to help you breathe, keep it close.
  • If you are worried about your health, call your doctor or 13 HEALTH (13 432 584). In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
  • If you are affected by the smoke, you may need to leave the area.
  • Check for warning updates often.
  • Do not fly drones around the fire, as they affect firefighting.

For road closures, people can use the QLD Traffic website or call 13 19 40. Local information is available through their council's Local Disaster Dashboard. Anyone needing translation can call TIS National on 131 450.

The Queensland Fire Department said updates will be issued if the situation changes.
