Brisbane 2032 Emblem Leak: Organisers Downplay Mishap & Tease Full Reveal

The highly anticipated emblem for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games was inadvertently revealed online over the weekend, prompting immediate discussion and generating buzz across Australia. While the premature leak wasn't part of the original plan, organisers are brushing it off, emphasising the overwhelmingly positive response to the design.

Andrew Liveris, president of the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee, acknowledged the incident in an interview with 4BC Brisbane. He stated that a staff member’s unintentional action is being handled well and reiterated that the emblem's design has been widely celebrated for its representation of Queensland and Brisbane.

The emblem depicts a cockatoo shaped like the state of Queensland, with an eye focused on Brisbane – a symbol intended to capture the world’s attention as anticipation builds for the games in under six years. A formal public reveal is scheduled for this evening at South Bank's Riverside Green.

Liveris explained that the emblem represents a year of creative development, involving numerous agencies and stakeholders. The selection process involved rigorous evaluations by internal teams, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), and local audiences.

Looking ahead, Liveris confirmed that the sports program is a key priority. A board meeting in Townsville will be followed by a public announcement of the selected sports later this year, likely before the end of the first quarter. Organisers are working closely with the IOC on a broader reform of its sports program and emphasizing an ‘Aussie character’ within that framework.

Importantly, venue requirements were also crucial criteria in the selection process, ensuring cost-effectiveness and minimizing the need for new construction – a commitment to delivering the games without burdening taxpayers. The committee is privately funded, placing a high value on sustainable delivery strategies.
