Diesel Prices Soar: Truckies Warn of Supermarket Price Hikes

Wholesale diesel prices have rapidly climbed to as much as $3 per litre in rural and regional Queensland. Wade Lewis of the Livestock Bulk and Rural Transport Association (LBRTA) highlighted that one truck trip recently cost operators an extra $1,400 due to fuel expenses, compared to March figures.
Lewis emphasized the precarious situation facing family-owned transport businesses, many carrying significant debt. He is urging the Australian government to reinstate targeted diesel relief measures, pointing out the substantial increase in GST revenue collected, which could be used to support struggling operators and mitigate the impact on consumers. The LBRTA warns that if these costs aren't passed along, smaller operators risk collapse.
"We can't bankroll this cash flow shock," Lewis stated during an interview with 4BC Brisbane. “Consumers are going to suffer because of it.”
