Ipswich riders urged to take care as Motorcycle Awareness Month runs
Police urge all Queensland road users to look out for motorcyclists as 67 riders have died on state roads so far in 2026, including in Ipswich.
Queensland Police Service is using Motorcycle Awareness Month this October to urge all road users, including those in Ipswich, to look out for motorcyclists and ride more safely.
Police say 67 motorcyclists have lost their lives on Queensland roads so far in 2026, and Ipswich has not been exempt from the toll. Motorcycles make up around one in every 20 registered vehicles in the state, yet almost one in every four road deaths involves a motorcycle crash.
Riders have little protection in a crash, police said, making every decision on the road critical.
Police are asking all road users to adjust their driving or riding to the conditions, manage their speed, and never get behind the wheel or handlebars while impaired or fatigued. Drivers of four-wheeled vehicles are urged to slow down, look twice and share the road with motorcyclists.
Police also pointed to the newly launched Ride with Me video series, in which experienced riders share practical tips, road awareness techniques and safety advice. The full series is available on the Queensland Police Service YouTube channel.
