Gold Coast 500 road closures in place at Main Beach and Surfers Paradise
Police urge motorists to plan ahead as Gold Coast Highway lanes are reduced at Main Beach and Surfers Paradise for the Gold Coast 500, from 23 to 25 October.
Queensland Police are reminding motorists to plan their journeys ahead of the Gold Coast 500, with road closures already in effect around the Main Beach and Surfers Paradise precincts.
The event runs from tomorrow, 23 October, until Sunday, 25 October. Key roads will be temporarily closed to accommodate race activities and keep traffic flowing. Police say they are working with event organisers and local authorities to limit disruption to the community while maintaining public safety.
Key road closures include:
Gold Coast Highway will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Waterways Drive and Surfers Paradise Boulevard, near Golden Gate Resort, during the event. Gold Coast Highway will also be reduced to one northbound lane from Thomas Drive to Waterways Drive during the event.
Various side streets in Main Beach and Surfers Paradise will be affected, with access restricted for residents and businesses in the lead-up to and during the event.
Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes this week and to allow extra time for travel. Public transport services will continue to operate, with some adjustments to routes and timetables.
Police said they will have a strong presence throughout the event to try to minimise traffic disruption and ensure everyone's wellbeing. They urge all attendees to respect the road closures and follow police directions.
