Passenger killed, driver injured after car hits power pole at Buccan

A 23-year-old Buccan man died and a 24-year-old New Beith driver was seriously injured after a Subaru WRX struck a power pole on The Aspect, Buccan.

A 23-year-old Buccan man has died and the driver of the car he was travelling in has been seriously injured after a single-vehicle crash at Buccan, near Beenleigh, on Wednesday night.

Police say officers were called to The Aspect around 8.25pm on 28 October after reports a black Subaru WRX had struck a power pole.

The driver, a 24-year-old New Beith man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition. His passenger, the 23-year-old Buccan man, sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating, and inquiries into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

The Queensland Police Service said it is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on Queensland roads, but that enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours. Police said driving under the influence, speeding, driving while distracted or fatigued, and not wearing a seatbelt put the lives of drivers and others at serious risk, and that those behaviours will not be tolerated.

"Road safety starts with you," police said.
