Two critically injured in single-vehicle crash at Federal

Two Imbil women are in a critical condition after a BYD Seal left the Old Bruce Highway at Federal on the Sunshine Coast. Police want witnesses to come forward.

Two women from Imbil were taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition after a single-vehicle crash at Federal on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon, Saturday 24 October.

Emergency services were called to the Old Bruce Highway near the intersection with Sankeys Road at 1.45pm after reports a white BYD Seal sedan had left the road and crashed. The driver, a 59-year-old woman, and an 18-year-old female passenger were both taken to hospital.

The Old Bruce Highway was closed in both directions for almost three hours while emergency services were on scene.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or who has dashcam footage, to contact Policelink. Quote reference number QP2602102133.

The Queensland Police Service said it is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on the state's roads, but that enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours. Police said driving under the influence, speeding, driving while distracted or fatigued, and not wearing a seatbelt put the lives of drivers and others at serious risk, and that these behaviours will not be tolerated.

This report is based on information released by Queensland Police Service.
