The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a final flood warning for the Lockyer and Laidley creeks, saying flooding is no longer occurring at Laidley and Gatton.
The warning, number 5, was issued at 3:50 am on Tuesday 27 October. Rainfall over recent days caused minor to major flooding along parts of the Laidley and Lockyer creeks and their tributaries on Monday. Creek levels were generally easing early Tuesday but remained elevated in some areas, particularly the lower parts of Lockyer and Laidley creeks.
On Laidley Creek, no further flooding is expected at Laidley. Isolated minor flooding is easing downstream at the Warrego Highway. No observations are available for the creek at Laidley, but a major flood peak is estimated to have occurred early Monday afternoon. The creek is estimated to be below the minor flood level of 5.00 m and falling, and is expected to stay below that level during Tuesday.
On Lockyer Creek, no further flooding is expected. No observations are available at Gatton, but a minor flood peak is estimated to have occurred on Monday afternoon. The creek is estimated to be below the minor flood level of 7.00 m and falling, and is expected to remain below it during Tuesday. It was at 4.84 m early Tuesday and falling, and is expected to stay below 8.00 m during Tuesday.
The Bureau said the catchments are saturated and will respond quickly to further moderate to heavy rainfall from showers and thunderstorms. The situation will continue to be monitored, and the warning will be reissued if renewed flooding is likely. No further warnings will be issued for this event.
Residents are urged not to drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater, to stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways, and to obey road closure signs.
