Minor flood peak expected at Beaudesert on Logan River; Teviot Brook flooding

The Bureau of Meteorology expects a minor flood peak at Beaudesert on Monday afternoon, with moderate to major flooding easing along Teviot Brook.

A minor flood peak is expected on the Logan River at Beaudesert on Monday afternoon, while moderate to major flooding along Teviot Brook is now easing, the Bureau of Meteorology says.

In its third flood warning, issued at 3:08 pm on Monday 26 October, the Bureau said moderate to heavy rainfall from thunderstorms had been recorded in the Logan-Albert catchment over the past few days. Further showers and thunderstorms are possible for the rest of Monday and into Tuesday, which could cause additional river rises.

The Logan River at Beaudesert was at 7.12 m and rising, with minor flooding. It is expected to peak near 7.20 m on Monday afternoon and fall below the minor flood level of 7.00 m on Monday evening. Minor to moderate flooding is occurring along the Logan River to Yarrahappini, upstream to Wyaralong Dam.

On Teviot Brook, major flood peaks have been recorded at Harpers Crossing, Boonah and Coulson Crossing, and a moderate peak was recorded at Croftby.

Downstream of Yarrahappini, minor flooding is possible at Maclean Bridge on Tuesday morning. The river there was at 4.29 m and rising, below the minor flood level, and may reach around 10.00 m.

Residents are urged not to drive, walk, swim or play in floodwater, to stay away from flooded drains, rivers, streams and waterways, and to obey road closure signs. For emergency assistance, call the SES on 132 500. In life-threatening emergencies, call 000 (triple zero) immediately. Updates are available through the ABC and local media, and the Queensland disaster website carries local emergency warnings.

The next warning will be issued by 8:30 am on Tuesday 27 October.

This report is based on information released by Bureau of Meteorology.
