It’s Spring time and with it comes breeding season for snakes.
Lately, Logan locals have been posting their snake sightings and encounters on social media, including the most recent sighting in Meadowbrook of a juvenile red-bellied black snake.
Local snake catcher Glen Ozzie Lawrence from Oz Capture Snake Relocations is reminding locals to take care with snakes during mating season which goes from Spring through to Summer.
“Snakes are moving around at the moment as they are looking for mates, so there is a good chance they may just be passing through,” he says.
“[But] when a snake’s location is compromised there is a good chance it will not return.
“When you have kids and pets involved, an Eastern Brown is not a good thing to have around the home, so the snake needs to be moved on to better pastures.”
Snakes are a protected species in Queensland and can be removed and relocated by snake catchers, like Glen, authorised under the Nature Conservation Act 1992.
According to snake catchers like Glen, keep your yard free of anything that’s likely to entice snakes, and you’re less likely to see them. But if you do, just stay still and let it go on it’s way.
