A man is facing a raft of charges after sparking a near five-hour siege with police in South Toowoomba.
The stand-off began about 7am yesterday when police officers went to the Ruthven Street home of the man who was threatening to self harm, and had barricaded himself inside his unit.
One of the officers was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance, and was taken to Toowoomba Hospital with an eye irritation.
After nearly five hours of negotiations with the man failed, officers from the Public Safety Response Team armed with riot shields arrived and forced their way into the home to end the siege.
The man had used kerosene to set fire to his door in an attempt to prevent police from getting inside..
He was yelling and screaming as he was removed from the unit, taken into police custody and transported to the Toowoomba Hospital Acute Mental Health Unit where he was charged with 10 offences.
They include five counts of acts intended to resist or prevent lawful arrest and one count each of arson, serious assault of a police officer, obstructing police, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.
He will face Toowoomba Magistrates Court today.
