LECNA prepares Christmas hampers to help local families this Christmas

Christmas Hamper Baskets

Spreading joy through the community at Christmas time has been something the Logan East Community Centre has been doing for over 27 years through their Christmas Hampers, and despite a lot of the community doing it tough the last few years, donations for community Christmas Hampers have been flooding in.

Shasie Field, Assistant Manager at Logan East Community Centre, which delivers 35 services and programs to the local community says the Christmas Hampers go out to mostly families, but also seniors and people in need.

“The hampers contain food stuffs needed for Christmas as well as clothes and toys for kids,” she says.

“We’re also supported by Share the Dignity who donate handbags fully stocked with things for mum and teenage girls, and also a dad gift – so everyone gets a gift this Christmas.”

Share the Dignity is a women’s charity that helps those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough through distributing feminine products to women and girls.

LECNA is hoping to deliver 300 hampers to individuals and families who have connected with the organisation throughout the year, through their Emergency Relief Program.

However, the much needed Christmas hampers which have a range of goods going to needy families, is running short of a few items.

“We’re always happy to get a monetary donation, but some of the food we are looking for is Christmas Cakes, laundry detergent, coloured popcorn and packets of chips, tinned soup, and toilet paper packs,” says Shasie.

“But we’re very fortunate we have a lot of local community groups supporting us.”
