Springwood Tri-Services RSL club president Dave Simmons said despite another local news outlet’s ‘misleading articles’, the club was fully in support of Council’s new Springwood park master plan.
The Springwood Park master plan will see the Anzac memorial be respected and an easier Anzac gathering space created with an arbour running along the internal road, while also bringing new elements to the park such as a water play area.
“We’re totally and utterly in favour of this occurring,” Mr Simmons said.

“We are part of the community and they are a part of us.
“The idea that has been put forward as a water park, to me is brilliant.”
Mr Simmons said he wanted to set the record straight.
“I don’t know where this information has come from. We feel we’ve been misrepresented,” he said.
“But at the end of the day we’re not going to let a few incorrect articles bring us down.
“We’ve just got to get on with it and keep doing what we’re doing.”

Mr Simmons said despite previous reports, he is in fact excited for the park redevelopment.
“I’m looking forward to bringing my two grandsons down here to play when this project goes ahead,” he said.
Mr Simmons said his club was fed ‘misleading information’.
“As far as I’m concerned those are not the club’s views and it’s time to move on,” he said.
“As a board we are quite happy for this development to go ahead. We fully support it.”
Mr Simmons said if anything the extra play areas would enhance the clubs use of the park.
“When there’s no covid we typically have quite a big ANZAC Day ceremony here (Springwood Park) and we get some 10,000 people,” he said.
“And in the background of those big ANZAC Day services are kids playing. And that’s what it’s all about.”
