AN IMPORTANT ceremony yesterday at San Damiano College in Yarrabilba, marked another step towards the grand opening of the new Catholic secondary college.

Bishop Ken Howell and special guests celebrated the blessing of the building site where the soon-to-be school is currently under construction.

Following an acknowledgement of Country, Bishop Howell blessed the soil, making it ‘holy ground’ for future students to undertake their schooling journey.

“Blessing the soil means we can say this college is a place where God speaks and listens to us,” Bishop Howell said.

Amongst the special guests at the ceremony, were first enrolled foundation student, Jack Broom, and his mother, Sonia, as well as Foundation Principal, Peter Edwards.

“San Damiano College will be a welcoming community where all families will have access to a high-quality, affordable, Catholic education in a well-resourced and technology-rich secondary college,” Mr Edwards said.

“Our students will flourish in an environment rich in connection to creation in all its forms as our dedicated staff support their well-being, encouraging them to develop and thrive during this critical time in their lives.”

San Damiano College will open to Year 7 students in 2021 and will then add one year level each year until it reaches Year 12.

A small number of places still remain available for 2021. If you are interested in enrolling your child, you can lodge applications online here.
