A suggestion by Prime Minister Scott Morrison that Queensland’s border closure stance is costing places like Logan tourist dollars has been backed up by stats showing that visitors to the city are spending less.
Data from Tourism Research Australia shows the typical spend per person has dropped to just $110 per night.
On top of that, overnight stays in Logan have fallen to their lowest level in five years. There were 237 overnight stays for the year ending in June. The five-year average is 273.
However, the good news is that the number of domestic day trips to Logan was up at the end of the year ending in June. They increased to 1462, an increase of almost 300 from the same period last year.
The five-year average for domestic day trips to Logan is 1164.
