Logan City will be going into lockdown at 5 o’clock this afternoon as part of the Greater Brisbane area.
Mask wearing in the region will be mandatory.
The stringent move comes after 10 new COVID-19 cases were recorded overnight.
Anyone who’s been in the Greater Brisbane area since March 20 must now follow the lock down restrictions, even if they are outside the region.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has said Greater Brisbane schools will close from tomorrow, but will remain open to the children of essential workers and for vulnerable children.
“We need to do this now to avoid a longer lockdown and that lockdown will commence at 5.00pm this afternoon. The lockdown will be for greater Brisbane which is Brisbane, Logan, Moreton Bay, Ipswich and Redlands”.
Gathering numbers at homes will be slashed to 30 people.
Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young has said during the lockdown people can only leave home for essential work, to look after a vulnerable person, for exercise and to buy food.
Everyone outside of the greater Brisbane area is being urged to wear a mask when they cannot socially distance.
