Logan House Fire Support Network Founder Louie Naumovski is warning caregivers to be mindful of the fire dangers to kids at home while school holiday are now in full swing.
“At school holiday time, we have children at home, and children are very curious to what is happening around the home and they want to explore,” Mr Naumovski said.
“But we ask you to make sure there’s no matches or lighters lying around, because children think that is a toy and we need to educate them that it’s actually not a toy, it’s a tool, so ensure these are well out of arm’s reach of children.”
Mr Naumovski says there is one more important fire safety tip he wants to impress on locals, and that is never leaving your stove unattended, especially when children are around.
“Almost 50% of structure fires that do occur is in the kitchen area,” he said. “There’s a fantastic slogan, ‘Don’t stop looking, while you’re cooking’. Do not leave anything on the stove unattended, especially a pan with oil or fat, that’s how fires occur.”
