New facility takes Logan Skate Centre to new level

The Logan City Speed Skating Club is set to undergo some exciting upgrades. The club has recently obtained funding approval for an international level banked track to be built at Rosia Road in Park Ridge making it the only international standard facility in Australia.

With the announcement of the 2032 Olympic Games in South East Queensland, not only will this provide a venue for  Logan, it will significantly assist in the development of future Olympians and world-class athletes.

Inline speed skating was recently introduced to the Youth Olympics, so we can hope that it isn’t far off a call to the big league.

There’s been a rapid increase in interest and popularity for the sport in Logan, yet there’s no safe or reliable training location for junior and developing athletes in Logan City. The management team at Logan City Speed Skating club says that the new 68 hectare venue precinct will also be a great facility for other wheeled sports like  roller derby, cycling, and triathlon training.  It will also include  mountain bike tracks, hiking trails and a nature play area.

The club’s petition to the council included support from Australian Tour De France rider Robbie McEwan, various skating clubs from across Australia, and state members of parliament.

The club specifically thanked the support of Deputy Mayor Jon Raven and Division 8 Councillor Jacob Heremia for their public support for the facility with Councillor Heremia stating that this was a “Huge win for Park Ridge and for Logan City as a whole.”

Federal Member for Forde Bert Van Manen also put his support behind the project.

Earthworks on the Rosia Road project are set to begin in early December of this year with construction due to get underway in January 2022.
