Meet Lisa Maps, a Logan-based songwriter who we caught up with at the Milky Way Market. The below are her responses to questions we asked about her career and artists around Logan.
Q: Who are you?
A: I’m a singer-songwriter based here in Logan.
I started doing music in Canberra, but I moved to Logan a few years back.
Q: In what category would you put your music?
A: I sort of classify myself as folk-pop or indie pop, somewhere along that spectrum.
Q: What does it mean to perform here in Logan on this new stage at the Milky Way Market?
A:It’s amazing to have a facility like this in Logan and so close to where I live.
I’m really excited, both having such an amazing amphitheatre/stage.
It’s actually getting christened for the first time tonight, I was literally the first person that got to play on the stage.
These are brilliant little markets, and I’m glad that they are going to be a regular thing. I’m definitely going to coming down to future ones if I don’t happen to be playing.
Q: What songs did you play tonight, and where can we find them?
A: I played a few of my original songs, Charmed Life, Thoughts and Prayers and Privilege and Pain.
I’m basically on every social media, if you look up Lisa Maps.
I’m on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, I’ve got music up on all of the streaming platforms as well, so if you use Spotify or any of those, you can have a listen.
Q: Where will you be playing next?
A: Fingers crossed, I’m going to be supporting a friend of mine who’s a Canberra-based artist, in Brisbane at the Junk Bar on the 5th March if everything stays nice with the borders. She’s been a real mentor to me over the years, and she’s got great chops.
Q: How does the quality of the other artists performing tonight compare with the rest of Australia?
A: It’s amazing how much talent there is in Logan. A lot of the time, I think people just don’t realise that that’s where everybody’s from because they don’t always get to see them play in Logan.
August River Band are amazing, definitely worth checking out.
Briana Dinsdale is a local girl, and a good one to watch, especially if you like country music.
Leesha Louise is a good one as well.
