Forde candidate on property resumption

The New Liberal candidate for Forde Samuel Holland has raised his views on the resumption of flood-affected properties in Logan.

It come as Federal Member for Forde Bert van Manen renewed calls for the resumption of flood-affected properties in Logan.

In response, The New Liberal candidate for Forde Samuel Holland says while he agrees with the resumption of frequently flooded properties, there should be some considerations in place.

“I would also like to challenge the sitting MP to match me with a few provisions to his position.

“That the properties be purchased by the Federal Government at a reasonable price + 20 per-cent.

“This is because having these properties in flood zones has a significant impact on the federal budget.

“So it makes sense for the federal government to purchase the properties.

“Further, the increased valuation is necessary as many people may not be able to afford to sell their property and move elsewhere, especially given the housing market at the moment.

“By overvaluing the properties we ensure that these members of our community can afford to move without placing them into financial stress.”

Mr Holland says he also has significant concerns about the motive for suggesting the resumption of properties in Eagleby.

“Although Mr van Manen now claims to be against the upgrade of the M1 going through Eagleby Wetlands, he has campaigned for that upgrade over three electoral cycles.

“So he must be lying now about his concerns or he lied to us during the preceding elections about his intentions to upgrade the highway.

“Which of these is the case?

“Further can Mr van Manen publicly confirm that property resumed because of these floods, Eagleby or else-wise, will not be used as part of the M1 upgrade program?”
