Another lockdown feared In Logan City as more people suffer COVID

Southeast Queensland is now in the grip of a new COVID outbreak with numerous people confirmed as infectious following the diagnosis of a 13-year-old schoolgirl.

As authorities scramble to trace the source of the infection, St Thomas More College has told parents that many people who attended the school have tested positive.

And anyone who attended the school this week has been told to immediately isolate themselves

Griffith University has also confirmed a positive COVID case in a staff member, who is believed to be linked to the school outbreak.

The University says the employee had attended a meeting on the Nathan campus on Wednesday.

Queensland Health has told all attendees who were at the meeting to get tested.

Staff members who visited the N72 Glyn Davis building as well as the N63 Business 3 building have also been told to get tested.

The new cases raise fears of another COVID  outbreak in the southeast, as health authorities scramble to pinpoint how the case in a 13-year-old student was contracted.

The original case which was detected yesterday morning forced the closure of the college at Sunny­bank, sending all students, teachers and families into two weeks of quarantine.

The teenager was infectious in the community for three days and at four exposure sites, including the girl’s school, two shops and a train station.

Queensland Health is still awaiting genomic sequencing results to determine which strain the girl has and where she contracted the virus.

It comes as authorities await test results from hundreds of Queenslanders who visited Garden City Shopping Centre at the same time as a COVID infected truck driver from New South Wales.

The driver, aged in his 20s, has had his first Covid vaccination and has since returned to New South Wales.

Further details are expected to be revealed by Queensland Health officials at this morning’s COVID media conference.
