A surname mix up recently left officials scratching their heads when two brothers were due to appear on separate charges in the Beenleigh Magistrates court.
40 year old Troy Appleby was appearing in court, via videolink, pleaded guilty to a driving offence. But a few minutes later, the judge hearing the case realised the charge was actually against Troy’s brother Timothy. The matter was eventually cleared up and the case continued against the brothers who were facing a string of other offences.
Timothy failed to appear in court leading to an arrest warrant being issued.
Troy faced further charges following a raid on his Logan Reserve home in which police allegedly found stolen number plates.
After pleading guilty, Troy was sentenced to 12 months jail
