Bushwalkers are being urged to use caution if they’re  planning an excursion over the New Year holiday period across Logan City and the Scenic Rim.

Mount Barney continues to be a popular destination for hikers –

Senior Sgt NATALIE COLE from Beaudesert police says it’s also a high risk hike for those who are not prepared…..

“We’re asking people to make sure they other be aware of their plans when they are going hiking,” she said.

“Also, police advise you take enough water in case you get stranded”.

She also says a good pair of shoes will be required if trekking up Mount Barney and if you find yourself in trouble,  call early in the day when there’s enough light for a rescue to take place.
