Buzz over name of Yarrabilba hub

There is a buzz in the air over the name of a state-of-the-art community hub under construction at Yarrabilba.

The Buzz in Yarrabilba is a planned $7.4 million community hub that will provide services to support community wellbeing and the development of new skills.

The naming of the hub was put to the local community through a Council survey, who chose the name, the Buzz.

The project is a collaborative effort between Lendlease, Logan City Council, Queensland State Government and Brisbane Catholic Education.

The Buzz will be a permanent home to ‘The Exchange,’ offering free services for local job seekers and employers to support residents.

Due to the location of the hub, situated between two secondary schools, a dedicated youth space will be an important part of the centre.

Councillor Laurie Koranski says the hub would be an inclusive, engaging, and responsive place that enables a thriving community to connect, learn, earn and innovate.

“This new community hub is one part of a community facilities network for Yarrabilba.

“It will also provide important community services that offer guidance and support for people in need.”

The facility will create 22 construction jobs, support supply chains and play an important role in the region’s economic recovery.

The community hub on Basalt Drive, is due for completion in mid-2022.
