A local Flagstone family is confused and a little shocked this week after the theft of their giraffe.
Rachel Alexander of Flagstone awoke over the weekend to find her beloved giraffe, Melvin was missing.
Melvin has been a regular attraction in the area, sitting in his favourite spot in Rachel’s yard for many years, watching over the street and providing a friendly face for locals.
Local’s took to social media to lament Melvin’s disappearance.
“My husband and I walk past here every night and I did see it missing and said to my husband gosh I hope no bugger has pinched that lovely giraffe!”
Stealing a giraffe is no easy feat at the best of times and Melvin is not a small boy. Melvin weighs approximately 30 kilograms.
“He was solid concrete and in perfect condition. My 16-year-old son and I struggled to move him by ourselves” Rachel explained
The outpouring of concern for the family, prompted Graham Bell from Livingstone Statues in Park Ridge to act. He kindly stepped up offering a free large wombat statue as a replacement
“Giving back is a great feeling” Graham said
