The Logan City library summer reading club has begun. It gives local children the chance to head into one of Logan’s nine air conditioned libraries and take part in activities to enhance their literacy skills during the school holidays.

Councillor Mindy Russell said it was a great program for local children.

“The annual reading club encourages them to keep reading over the summer at their local library to maintain their literacy skills and reading level,” she said.

“The program will also feature free summer reading club activity packs.

“Each pack includes materials to create masks, pencil toppers, and reading bookmarks.

“The summer reading program encourages reading for fun.”

The program is also designed to highlight library resources to new junior members and their families.

“There are plenty of other free take home activity packs and online workshops for the school holidays,” Cr Russell said.

“Library members can also borrow science kits and technology and robots from their local library.”

The program runs until Sunday January 31.
