Logan

Kingscliff – a pocket of paradise, just over an hour down the road!

There are so many incredibly beautiful ‘bubbles’ of heaven within a couple of hours of Logan. There’s the little village of Manly, East of Brisbane (3/4 of an hour in the car from Logan), where we can eat delicious seafood at Wilson’s Boathouse and watch the boats sail our troubles away.

The Beautiful Sunshine Coast, less than 2 hours by car, northwards. Perhaps the best way of describing the ‘Sunny’  is a more relaxed [and arguably even sunnier] version of the Goldie!

Half an hour down the road from Logan and we’re on The aforementioned Gold Coast and all it has to offer, from Paradise Point on the north of the coast to Palm Beach at the southern end, with ‘Breezy Broady (Broadbeach)’ and ‘Beautiful Burleigh’ in the middle; not forgetting the legendary Surfers Paradise, ‘BANG’ in the middle – love it or hate it, it’s always going to be a ‘surfer’s paradise’!

As Queensland meets New South Wales, the miles and miles of scintillating sand seem to extend forever and we tend to forget how lucky we are, living in such sublime settings.

A couple of weeks ago, we drove just over an hour south to spend the weekend in Kingscliff and were far from disappointed. In fact, the calmness and caring feel of Kingscliff transports you to another world: a relaxed world where we forget we are an hour from home and bask in the tranquility.

The Taverna Kingscliff

My partner and I met with family (hers, as mine are stuck in the UK!) who had traveled up from country NSW and we resided together in Heritage Pines apartments, directly next to The Kingscliff Hotel. Our view looked straight out to the ocean and what can only be described as one of the greatest spots for a caravan park you will ever find (Tweed Holiday Park, Kingscliff Beach). As a ‘pom’ who grew up holidaying in caravans around the UK, the fact that this park is literally on the ocean in such an incredible setting astounded me.

You would think that staying next to a large pub would have been noisy; alas, it wasn’t! Whether it was the old stone walls of the apartments that kept the noise away or the fact that everyone is so relaxed, there simply isn’t much noise, I’m not sure. However, the location was perfect and The Kingscliff hotel wasn’t bad either! Such a spacious, welcoming venue with all a holiday maker needs, from the TAB to tagliatelle and its own bottle shop for that sneaky nightcap when the shops over the road are closed.

Sneaky lunch date at The Taverna

There was live music on both nights we were there: Tex Perkins on these occasions. Perkins certainly proved popular with the tourists and locals alike. On Sunday afternoon, we took a stroll down the street to The Taverna, a Greek-inspired little restaurant that served delicious local squid and duck you would die for!

View from our hotel balcony

I could write forever about how beautiful Kingscliff is and I could lie about how much we did whilst we were there. However, the truth is, we didn’t do much as we simply didn’t need to. From relaxing on the balcony watching the ocean, calling for a pint (or schooner, if you prefer) in the pub; eating delicious food at the local restaurant and walking the world go by on the amazing beach.

Kingscliff was enough. In fact, it was more than enough: jump in the car, or on the train, this weekend and do yourself a favour: visit Kingscliff.
