Local bee keepers keep sweet with EKKA awards

The cancellation of agricultural shows has been a recurring theme for the past 2 years. The cancellation of the EKKA, the Beaudesert and now the Beenleigh show, among other shows regionally this year, has caused many families to lose their annual family outing.  The cancellations also had a dramatic effect on the income of show societies and livelihood of ride exhibitors. The other group that these cancellations have hit is the small producers who compete in these shows apriculture and agriculture competitions.

One company, Jimboomba’s own Bee All Natural, is a local family beekeeping and honey business that has been doing it tough in recent times.

“It has been a tough few years for beekeepers with the drought, bush fires, and then Covid.” Director Jason Roebig told me. “Having multiple events and shows cancelled in recent times has compounded the challenges that we are already facing.”

This year the Royal Queensland Show managed to keep their apriculture competition alive this year even through lockdowns and the show cancelled. Bee All Natural was able to not only compete in these competitions but walk away with first place in three of them.  The company won the Honey, Honeycomb and Beeswax competitions.

Jason says that “this has been an immeasurable shot in the arm and has given not just us but many others a real boost in confidence.”

“The fact that we can represent the City of Logan at the “Big Show” and that our Honey, Honeycomb and Beeswax has been critiqued by our peers, our boutique products are deemed to be among the best of the best.”

Jason, his wife Natasha and their daughter Miranda have represented The City of Logan various ways in recent years. They are the honey industry’s ambassadors to the Eat QLD campaign. Jason sits on Logan’s Tourism Advisory Group and is also part of the planning team for the Chilogan Chilli Festival, but the Honey and Bee industry is where their

hearts belong. They run Beekeeping sessions and educational tours to let people know the important place that bees have in our ecosystem.

In a world where supporting small businesses and local producers is becoming more and more important, having an award-winning producer right in our backyard is worth shouting about.

“This is a very proud moment for us, our supporters and Logan City.”
