Louie Naumovski from Logan House Fire Support has spoken out about how fires affected Logan City in 2020, and shared some eye opening statistics.
Mr Naumovski took to social media to express his views on 2020.
“Well, what a year 2020. Thanks for nothing,” he said.
“From Bushfires, Floods and of course Covid-19, we still had many House Fires across the state.”
He then shared a breakdown of ‘the year that was.’
According to Mr Naumovski from January 1 until December 31, 2020 there were 1,826 residential structure fire call outs across the state of Queensland.
“481 of those call outs were in the SouthEast Region,” he said.
199 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Gold Coast.
150 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Logan.
101 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Ipswich.
12 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Lockyer Valley.
10 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Somerset.
9 Residential Structure Fire Call Outs across Scenic Rim.
Mr Naumovski said in Logan City Thursday was the busiest day for call outs with 77, followed by Sunday 73, Monday and Saturday with 71 each, Friday 69, Wednesday 62 and Tuesday 58.
“43% of the fires started in the Kitchen, 9% started in the sleeping area, 8% in the garage, 4% in the lounge room, and 36% in other areas of the home,” he said.
“Sadly, 13 lives were lost in residential structure fires in Queensland. Three of those from Logan City.
“Our thoughts go out to those families that lost loved ones through 2020.”
