Logan City Food Trails adds Thai Orchid in Springwood to popular foodie list

The SEQ Food Trails for Logan City is well underway, with fabulous eateries around the region being added to the ever-growing list of cafes and restaurants serving up the best dishes in Logan City.

Restaurant Manager of the Thai Orchid in Springwood Mandy Klinkaew is very excited to be part of the first Logan City Food Trails.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity for us to be part of this,” Ms Klinkaew said. “We’ve been here for 35 years, and it’s great to be part of this initiative and to be recognised in the Logan City area, along with the other wonderful cafes and restaurants in our city.”

Ms Klinkaew’s mother, Tina, started the restaurant back in 1986, beginning as a small takeaway, dine-in restaurant before growing into the booming business it is now.

“We were the first Thai restaurant in Brisbane back then,” she said. “Since then, we’ve won multiple awards, including Best Thai Restaurant.”

What’s the secret to Thai Orchid’s success? Ms Klinkaew says it’s the support of loyal customers and the local community.

“We have wonderful support from the community and a lot of our customers are friends who have been with us for 30 years,” Ms Klinkaew said. “Some of them have moved [away] but their children are still coming to the restaurant and bringing along their children as well, so we’ve been a family restaurant for many years.”

Despite last year being difficult during the pandemic, Ms Klinkaew says the support of locals during that time for Thai Orchid was so important.

“Locals still bought takeaways from us, which was such a great support for our business,” she said.

As for the Thai Orchid’s signature dish, Ms Klinkaew says diners can’t go past the Moreton Bay Bugs in a mild curry sauce, as well as the roast duck in red curry.

“We only use fresh ingredients here, and source them locally, which keeps the locals coming back to us,” she said.
